Trump is expecting Clinton to embarrass him so he is lowering expectations. He is doing this by claiming the debates are rigged and by asserting any moderator will be working against him.
These are transparently disingenuous, insincere tactics to enable him to play a victim card which will allow his apologists a way to explain and justify his poor showing. If by some improbable event he manages not to embarrass himself, so much the better his performance if the bar is low.
This is an old trick which, like all his tactics, is calculated to work with low-information people who allow their strong prejudices to overwhelm their weak critical-thinking skills. Entirely predictable tactics for an easily predictable audience.
Like the convention, he is only in the debate because it is expected, not because he wants to share a stage with anyone else — much less someone smarter and better-informed.
