- The number one thing I would like to see change in the US government and politics is involvement of the people. Entirely too few people vote. Maybe 50% of the population picks our President. During other elections, 20% of the people vote. This is absurd. People complain, but they don’t participate. The least, the absolute least they can do is vote
- Civics in school. What happened to civics? I read how people think our system works and I wince. They don’t understand the Constitution. They have no idea how their government works. No wonder they don’t vote. They don’t get it. An educated electorate is critical.
- I would like to see the end of absurd districts. Districts should make sense in how they are drawn. There is entirely too much gerrymandering. Districts should not be drawn to favor one party or another.
- Campaign finance reform is a must. We need limitations on how much individuals and businesses can put in. And we need limitations on how much can actually be spent on elections.
- Changes to lobbying laws. Lobbying might as well be part of campaign donations the way it is conducted. The laws need to be altered or at least enforced. Business and political groups are having entirely too much of an impact on the laws that get passed or how they get altered before they are passed.
- Common sense legislation. It should be impermissible to add irrelevant legislation as an effort to stop other laws from passing, as a way of interfering with the budget and so on. Laws should be written in plain English. Again, judges should not be elected, which might impact how they choose to interpret laws. Lobbying should be better controlled.
- Judges should not be elected. Pennsylvania elects judges. It is a disaster. Judges should not be advertising about how they will be tough on crime. They shouldn’t be advertising at all. Judges should not be worried about the sentences they pass down because it will impact their re-elections. Prosecutors should be tough on crime. Judges should be neutral. The deadlock on appointing judges needs to be stopped. There should be a time limit for when nominations must be acted upon.
These are what were on the top of my head when I answered the question. So there you go.
