I still remember. It was just 3 years ago. My classmate, let's call her X, had passed away during PE. We were running 12 rounds around the track, and on her final round, she suddenly passed out and fell to the ground. My classmates were all instructed to go back to class.
I lingered for a while because I wanted to check on X and make sure that she was okay. I couldn't see anything because there were a few PE teachers crowding around her, and the last glimpse I had of her was seeing her frothing at the mouth. I prayed so hard, and at the same time I was so scared, so traumatized.
I was instructed to go back to class after that, so I did. The teachers said that they would update my class on her situation later. The ambulance came and took her to the hospital. I still remember that it was X’s birthday, because I had written her a card and I was so excited to pass it to her.
X was a good friend to me, she was quiet and she hardly spoke up in class but we'd text over Whatsapp and talk about school and all.
So, 2 hours later, my whole class was informed by a teacher that she had passed on, and that she was in a better place now. My whole class broke down, and I remember crying all the way home when my mom picked me up.
A few months later, I met X’s parents, because the class sent me as a representative to talk to them. When talking about it, I cried so hard, and X’s parents were so nice and comforting me and saying, “She’s in a better place now, she won't want to see you so sad.” I had to be excused because I was crying so uncontrollably.
Even though it's been, like, 3 years, I'll never forget all that has happened. I've heard that people who pass away on their birthdays are angels sent down to us from Heaven. So rest in peace, X, I will always miss you.
