Why do people get frustrated when another car is tailgating them?

I get frustrated—correction, angry—because the thoughtless idiot is endangering my life and that of my passengers. Tailgating is against the law for a reason. I don't do it, and people who do it to me piss me off. I don't care what their justification is. Safety comes first.
