Seriously, if you have no reason not to adopt the little spud, by all means do. But please remember to always keep him indoors on Halloween. There are cruel people out there and black cats can be kidnapped and killed by vicious teenagers that night.
You should probably keep him indoors anyway; cats are terrible predators on birds. There are even species of birds on islands that went extinct or nearly so because of feral cats.
If you’re into that sort of superstitious stuff, the Scots always felt a black cat in the house ensured good luck.
