Have you ever found a USB stick in a random location or received one in the letterbox?

Yes. My fiancé and I found a 32 GB USB drive on the ground. He picked it up and said we should return it to its owner. It was too big a drive to only contain ransomware or malware.

Just to be safe, he got out his old laptop that hardly works anymore, disabled its WiFi capabilities, unplugged the router for good measure, and plugged in the USB drive. The 32 GB drive was nearly completely filled up with photos and documents. We opened a few documents to find that they were college documents, thesis papers and whatnot, that someone had spent a lot of time and effort on. Everything on the drive was probably irreplaceable to the owner. We were able to find a name and looked up that name on Facebook. We got a lot of hits, but we went through and messaged every one of them, asking if they'd lost a USB drive and if they did, could they describe it and the content.

We successfully found the rightful owner and were able to meet up and return the USB drive. He was so grateful, as almost everything on there either was an original copy with no backup copy or was the backup copy, including a research paper he needed to graduate.
