Should a parent invade a teen’s privacy (i.e., constantly checking messages)?

Hell No!

Give me some space! I am leaving for college in a few months and I still have her going through everything (she doesn’t know about Quora yet…), making me follow her on Snapchat, and she grounded me for a long time for having a Twitter.

Mom, if you see this it will be after I’m off to college. What the fuck? You were so paranoid that you couldn’t trust me to text some friends. I couldn’t go a few hours without you snooping around. I’m not watching porn on my phone. I’m not sending nudes. I’m not dealing drugs. Why couldn’t you trust me?

If you are a parent reading this, I beg you not to do what my mother did to me. Trust your kids unless they break that trust. Give them a chance. Otherwise, your relationship will be strained greatly. I say this from personal experience, but just please don’t do it.
