Taco Bell’s latest creation might be one of its most divisive.
It’s likely that you—like other consumers—will either think it looks delicious, or it is among the greatest abominations ever perpetrated against food.
Let’s just come right out and say it: They’ve replaced the taco shell with a folded piece of fried chicken.
The shell is the chicken. The chicken is the shell. The #NakedChickenChalupa will be exposed January 26. http://pic.twitter.com/m26nRt5v9B

There’s nothing naked about Taco Bell’s new Naked Chicken Chalupa. It picks off where Taco Bell sister brand KFC left off when it introduced the “Double Down” a few years ago. That cuisine item featured two pieces of fried chicken in place of a bun.
The Naked Chicken Chalupa is loaded with standard taco fare: lettuce, tomato, more chicken, cheddar cheese and avocado ranch.
Some consumers took to Twitter, intrigued:
I'm not very adventurous when it comes food but I AM looking forward to Taco Bell's new menu item on January 26th. Yum! #NakedChickenChalupa

Others expressed less enthusiastic responses:
I don't even want to know what they do to that chicken to make it look like a taco #NakedChickenChalupa

Taco Bell seemed prepared for the mixed reaction.
Marisa Thalberg, Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement:
Something this delicious yet different is bound to ruffle some feathers; some might even cluck their tongues at it. However, we feel confident that once our fans get a taste of the Naked Chicken Chalupa they are going to understand exactly why this is our next big, fun and craveable innovation, following in the footsteps of the Doritos Locos Tacos five years ago and the Quesalupa just last year.
The creation is coming to your local Taco Bell chain on Jan. 26, and it retails for $2.99.
