A couple weeks ago, we finally deployed the new home page for Horizon. The old home page was more of a “how it works” landing page than an aspirational story showcasing “why you would want to use Horizon”.
The goals for the new home page were as follows:
- Appeal to visitors coming to Seattle
- Appeal to hosts in Seattle
- Connect Stay a Night, Give a Night to the Horizon brand
- Ensure people understand Horizon’s mission of using the power of community to unlock travel opportunities and a community funded movement they should support financially if they want to see it continue to get better (and reach more people).
- Provide social proof that real people have used to platform to find places to stay, and real communities are using it to facilitate homesharing among their members.
Above the fold home page:
We wanted to tie the Stay a Night, Give a Night campaign back to the brand:
** Thanks so much to City Bldr, Region 6 Ventures, Susi Musi & Co Real Estate, WealthSimple, Wikileaf, and Rentalutions for sponsoring.
The other core sections of the home page are “how it works”, “Why Horizon,” and “Loved by our friends”.
Those of you who have gone through web redesigns of your own know how challenging it is to accomplish all your goals with a single landing page (without making it overwhelming complex). What do you think? Does the new home page give you an accurate idea of what Horizon is and why you should care? Any feedback you’d like to offer, either via email or in the comments, would be awesome.
One home page redesign down, one to go. Next up, Geek Estate Blog: 2018 will finally be the year this blog gets a facelift. The last redesign was in 2011.
