If you told me the only way to get out of being stabbed in the throat was to get kicked in the groin, I'd take the kick any day of the week. I'd beg for that kick. Does that make me "so comfortable" with a boot to the gonads? Of course not, but I've been hit in the balls before and recovered. I wouldn't like it, but I can handle it and probably be okay at the end of the day. If a bad option gets you out of a much more awful one, then any rational person would take that.
Mike Pence is ideologically extreme, and that's a problem. But he's at least somewhat sane and reserved. I suspect that he'd feel the weight of the office upon him and try to behave in a manner resembling what we expect of a president. I think he'd be cautious in how he dealt with foreign leaders, instead of challenging them to slap-fights. I think he'd ignore criticism rather than trying to hobble a free press because he thinks they're being mean to him. I think he'd consult with the affected government agencies before dumping out horrible ill-conceived executive orders.
I think Pence's objectives would, in many cases, be opposed to mine. But I think he'd pursue his objectives in a somewhat reasonable fashion rather than trying to bring down the whole system in a tantrum when he doesn't get his way.
I don't think Pence would be a very good President, but he'd act like a President, not a badly raised six-year-old. That's a huuuuuuuge difference.
