‘Stories’ to come to Facebook users’ news feeds

Facebook is unveiling yet another feature that it appears to have copied from Snapchat.

After introducing Stories and disappearing messages to Instagram, the social media giant is rolling out Facebook Stories to users in Chile, Greece and Vietnam. The feature was introduced to users in Ireland in January.

Earlier this month, the company rolled out Facebook Stories to its Messenger app.

Facebook Stories live in a top navigation bar, just like Instagram. Stories can consist of a mix of photos and video.

Just like Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories disappear from users’ top navigation bar after 24 hours. Snapchat Stories also disappear after the same time frame. Though the feature will eventually come to all users within the Facebook app, the photos and videos won't appear on a user's timeline on in the core newsfeed unless the user chooses.

Users who have access to Stories also have access to a feature called “Direct,” which enables you to post a photo or video reply to other users’ stories. You can also use it to send an image directly to a user, instead of posting for all to see. .

Facebook Stories also lets users add fun filters and captions—just like Snapchat.

The move makes things easy for marketers who will want to reach audiences on both platforms with a storytelling approach. Whether you’ll want to share the same message will depend on how broad the audience is that you want to reach.

Snapchat’s demographic is starting to get older, but millennials still tend to dominate the user base. Facebook is a bit broader: Perhaps even your grandmother is on Facebook.

Don’t expect the same content to work just the same on both platforms—but also don’t be surprised when it does, because truly great content plays well on any channel.

What do you think of the upcoming feature, PR Daily readers?
