If you’d like to create an augmented reality or virtual reality campaign, you’ll need technical skills and money.
However, it doesn’t have to be a budget-busting endeavor. It’s increasingly easy and inexpensive to create AR experiences.
Here are five ideas for crafting an affordable AR campaign for your company:
1. Create a Snapchat Geofilter.
Do you have a conference for which you’d like more attendee engagement, or perhaps a fundraising campaign happening in your city? How about a 5K event?
If so, Geofilters are an excellent, shareable tool. A Geofilter is a custom-made filter that renders imagery based on a smartphone user’s location.
Snapchat Geofilters are fairly inexpensive. With a going rate of about $5 per 20,000 square feet, that should cover your next event.

2. Create an augmented reality scavenger hunt at your next conference.
Who doesn’t enjoy a scavenger hunt? It’s a clever way to get attendees to visit more booths in your showroom—or just ignite some friendly competition.
Simply place beacons (small transmitting devices) throughout your conference, and have attendees download an app that can find them.
Topi’s conference app is a good starting point.
3. Produce a virtual reality video.
Consider allocating time, money and other resources to create a 360-degree video. If you’re skeptical about the impact or ROI of such an immersive piece, check out how Pencils of Promise used technology.

If you lack equipment, you can buy the Samsung Gear 360 for about $350. After shooting your video, upload it to YouTube. Here’s an easy tutorial.
4. Build an augmented reality app.
If you have a great idea for your own AR experience, such as NHS’s blood donation campaign, you might consider building your own AR app.

5. Use Apple's ARKit.
If you have some technical expertise, you can build your own iPhone app using Apple’s ARKit. Here’s a tutorial.
Hopefully, these examples help dispel the notion that AR and VR are prohibitively expensive or complex technologies that only Fortune 500 companies can afford. Regardless of your company size or marketing budget, it’s possible to capitalize on this emerging trend of immersive, interactive content.
