Those of us in the Northern Hemisphere have been cooped up, hibernating during the cold weather, but we’re ready to shake off winter’s chill. For a lot of people that means getting out and exploring the great outdoors.
An afternoon hike in a local park may be just what many of us need to escape our daily stress. For others it could mean something more epic—perhaps a trip to one of the 417 national parks the United States and its territories offers. 2016 saw almost 331 million visitors traveling to national parks.
To help you appreciate nature’s beauty, you must be prepared with the right gear for the elements. Fortunately, many companies offer high-quality outdoor gear. This selection can largely be attributed to Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, a pioneer of today’s outdoor equipment and clothing.
Now a billionaire, Chouinard built his outdoor empire from meager beginnings.
The company’s official history explains the struggle he faced early in his career while selling pitons for climbing:
He supported himself selling gear from the back of his car. The profits were slim, though. For weeks at a time, he’d live on fifty cents to a dollar a day.
The company has attained enormous success and is now a recognized name worldwide, along with such brands as The North Face. Still, Patagonia remembers its environmental roots by donating 1 percent of all sales to support environmental organizationsworld wide and providing grants to grassroots ecological movements.
If you’d like to work for a company that is as passionate about preserving the outdoors as it is about exploring them, Patagonia is looking for an email marketing specialist at its Ventura, California, headquarters.
