30 jobs in the PR and marketing world

The night of April 14, 1865, had a lasting impact on our country’s history.

A crowd of about 1,700 people entered Ford’s Theatre to see the comedy, “Our American Cousin.” What they did not know was that they witnessed one of our nation’s most historic events.

President Abraham Lincoln and his wife were in attendance, watching the play from a balcony.

During the production, John Wilkes Booth fired one shot to the back of Lincoln’s head, before jumping from the balcony to the stage below. Many in the crowd were unaware if this was part of the play, so their response was delayed until they heard Lincoln’s wife scream. By that time, Booth had escaped out the back.

Lincoln was pronounced dead the next morning.

Ford’s Theatre now functions as a monument and museum, and is still a working theatre producing both historical and contemporary plays. Since it reopened in 1968, it is among the most visited sites in Washington, D.C.

Though it’s a historical site, modern communications strategies play an important role in helping the organization reach new audiences, and share pertinent news and information. Want to help spread the word? Ford’s Theatre seeks a communications associate in Washington, D.C.

The position requires strong writing skills, as the candidate will write and edit content for the communications, education and development departments. The candidate will also assist in the development of a communications plan for increasing awareness of the organization’s programs and their impact.
