Coke and Dunkin’ Donuts team up to challenge Starbucks

Pepsi and Starbucks are dominating the bottled coffee game, but they have a new competitor—a familiar one.

Coca-Cola found itself a partner of its own, Dunkin’ Donuts, with whom it will enter the pre-packaged coffee fray. In the partnership, Coca-Cola will produce and distribute ready-to-drink Dunkin’ Donuts coffee starting next year.

Ready-to-drink coffee and tea sales have been steadily rising as consumers have turned away from soda.

Starbucks is the current market leader, but demand is growing, and both Coke and Dunkin are hoping to cut into those sales.

Dunkin’ Donuts chief executive, Nigel Travis, told Bloomberg:

Our customers, especially younger customers, want to have a Dunkin’ ready-to-drink iced coffee. It’s one of the fastest-growing segments of the packaged-goods industry.

Expect to see the bottled beverages in Dunkin’ stores, grocery stores and convenience stores—basically anywhere you find Starbucks’ popular bottled Frappuccino.
