In 1974 I was on the beach in Tel Aviv. I had travelled from London on my own because a friend that lived there was getting married and going on holiday for a month, and she asked me if I wanted to stay in her flat during that time. I jumped at the opportunity.
It was April and beautiful weather and I was reading on the beach, but I was beginning to get a headache so I decided in an instance to pack my stuff and get the bus back to the flat in Ramat Gan, about 15 minutes ride away.
It was just as well that I did that because no sooner had I got in and taken a headache pill, than the doorbell went. I opened the door cautiously because I knew no one would come and visit me in the flat. There was a young man on the door step. He said my name which was interesting in itself as I did not know him from Adam.
He was an Israeli. He now lived in London and he was a sales agent and one of his clients was my uncle. The story is, and I have written it here before, is that he went to see my uncle for an order the week previous. My uncle asked him to come back the following week as he was too busy to see him. He said he could not come back then as he was due to visit his family in Israel.
My uncle never one for being shy asked him if he was married. He then gave him my address and asked him to visit me to give his regards. Which he was now doing. We have been married for 41 years now.
