Absolutely! If I weren't to talk to Olof, my 16 month German Shepherd Lab mix, I'd spend the greater part of my day in silence. Truly, it's not a one way conversation either. Olof often speaks to me and I don't mean in some convoluted way, but he reacts to many words and phrases and can even be asked to do simple chores such as, bring the..... close the door, see who is here, etc.
He's my sounding board for many thoughts and ideas, my companion and confidant. So, yes, it's OK to talk to your dog. In fact, I'd say it would be wrong not to.
