What are some of the most bizarre fan theories about the Harry Potter series which may be true?

I've read a theory that the Dursleys were so nasty to Harry because, while he was living with them at #4 Privet Drive, he was a horcrux of Voldemort, and the as such, he had a similar effect on them that the Slytherin locket horcrux had on Harry, Ron, and Hermione while they were searching for a way to destroy it: it made them angry, hostile, and cruel.

Edit on 2015-5-13: I don't personally buy into this theory. I think it's interesting but most likely false. But to answer the multiple people commenting (not unwisely) that if it had this effect on the Dursleys, than why didn't it have a similar effect on Ron, Hermione, and everyone else he ever came in contact with, I will say that perhaps the effect is always present, but is amplified in people who were predisposed to disliking Harry already. He had his share of enemies and detractors, but for people who generally liked Harry, maybe it just didn't work as well.

Another factor could be time. The Dursleys spent nearly 11 uninterrupted years with Harry living literally right under their feet in the cupboard under the stairs, and there could reasonably be a cumulative effect on their disposition. Couple that with their preexisting dislike for Harry, and you've got the potential for a very negative situation, at which point, this unlikely theory gains a little more credibility.
