First, because it would be unconstitutional; second, because enormous numbers of people would assume that he was really running the show. A lot of people are badly freaked out about the idea of a woman president anyway, and will use any excuse to denigrate her or to claim that she’s really a puppet for a man.
Third, Obama wouldn’t want it even if he could have it. He needs a rest.
