Star Wars’ Solo partners with Solo Cup

What is a space smuggler’s carafe of choice? Marketers hope it’s the cup that shares his name.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” hits theatres May 25, but brand managers have been planning for months for this jump to lightspeed. The makers of the party staple “Solo Cup” were eager to tease their collaboration with the Star Wars brand.

The company announced a giveaway in connection with the film’s release.

It wrote in a press release:

The legendary SOLO brand is thanking fans for their loyalty by collaborating on fun-filled promotions in celebration of Solo: A Star Wars Story, in theaters May 25th. The SOLOBRATION includes a sweepstakes with the grand prize of a trip for four to Los Angeles with red carpet access to the world premiere of the film; an exclusive look at the making of a classic Star Wars replica made from SOLO products; and more.

The company has also leaned on celebrity influencers, including the actor who originated the role of Chewbacca.

As part of the sweepstakes, the company threw a special opening party for winners with special guests, including actor Donald Glover.

Restaurant chain Denny’s has also partnered with the film.

Denny’s released a Star Wars themed menu as well as advertisements connecting to the upcoming film.

Food & Wine magazine reported these offerings:

Co-Reactor Pancake Breakfast: Two buttermilk pancakes topped with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, and whipped cream, as well as Crystal Crunch Rocks (similar to Pop Rocks candy) and a warm citrus sauce "to pour over the pancakes to make 'em go pop." The combo also comes with two eggs, hash browns and bacon or sausage.

Blaster Fire Burger: A hamburger with chipotle Gouda cheese, bacon, and Ghost Pepper sauce, along with lettuce, tomato, red onions and pickles on a brioche bun, plus a side of French fries.

Two Moons Skillet: Ham, spinach, sautéed mushrooms, and hash browns, topped with a Gouda cheese sauce, cheddar cheese, and eggs.

Lightspeed Slam: Egg whites scrambled with fresh spinach and grape tomatoes, two turkey bacon strips, an English muffin, and fruit.

Insurance company Esurance has jumped on the Solo bandwagon, along with Nissan, General Mills and Symantec.

However, it’s the Solo Cups that have grabbed everyone’s attention.
