Meet the RE Tech Founder: Connell McGill from Enertiv

In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with the CEO of Enertiv, Connell McGill.

Without further ado…

What do you do?

I am the CEO and one of the co-founders of Enertiv. My focus is driving the company vision, growing the team, managing channel partnerships and client accounts, and maintaining investor relations.

What problem does your product/service solve?

Enertiv provides an operations performance system to building operators. Our goal is to help them keep their finger on the pulse of their buildings and solve the problems around reactive approaches to equipment failure, manual submeter readings, inefficient resource (electricity, water, gas, etc.) use and tenant discomfort.

What are you most excited about right now?

I’m excited to have our technology in some of the big name portfolios in New York and for the opportunity to prove our value. We are even helping improve operations in ways we didn’t initially envision (for example, during the heavy rain in May, we identified basement sump pumps that were struggling to keep up, something that would’ve gone unnoticed without real-time tracking). A lot of the industry operates on the “that’s the way it’s always been done mentality.” I’m excited to show them how much better things can be done, and prove that getting there is data-driven and easy to implement.

What’s next for you?

Our platform leverages machine-learning, so it is constantly getting better at predicting equipment failures and inefficiencies before they happen. We have developed a lot relationships in New York, where we’re based. Next, we plan to take our technology nation-wide and even internationally.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

Building’s waste 30% of the energy they consume. Worse, these costs (and maintenance costs while we’re at it) are generally considered fixed and unavoidable. There is so much room for improvement and opportunity to save money, energy, time and frustration for both managers and tenants.
