Twitter users’ mixed reactions to new interface

Twitter is still struggling to grow and maintain its user base, but the passion among its faithful is strong as ever.

That’s judging from the reaction to its recent user interface-lift.

On Thursday, the platform revealed its new look was revealed, which took users by surprise. Here’s how the company rolled out the changes:

Twitter made several updates to the new interface, which include:

- A new look, with changes to the typeface and icons

- A relocated and remodeled “Explore section (where the Notifications tab used to be)

- Settings were moved to a left-hand nav bar in the iOS mobile version (that change hit Android phones last summer)

- Reply icon is now a conversation bubble instead of a standard reply arrow

In a blog post titled “Check out our new look,” the company wrote:

Today, with lots of feedback and ideas from you, we’re refreshing our product too and making it feel lighter, faster, and easier to use. We listened closely and kept what you love. And for the things you didn’t, we took a new approach to fix and make better.

Though Twitter said it took users’ feedback to heart, many criticized the update. The hashtag # NewTwitter trended through most of the day, with many users tweeting their reviews with memes and snark:

Though the reaction to Twitter’s new look was mixed, users’ biggest beef was that Twitter failed to include an option to edit tweets in its latest update. It’s a feature which many have been clamoring for years:

Twitter did not respond to criticism or issue an explanation for the lack of an edit button.

What do you think about the platform’s changes, PR Daily readers? What’s your take on how the company rolled them out?
