How did your parents decide on your name?

My (American) parents decided that they loved the name Michaela.  There's some story about a little girl who might have attended their wedding, and might have been their flower girl-- they don't really remember who she was.  They just thought the name was beautiful.

My (Brazilian) grandmother didn't like the name at all.  Since English is her third language, she wasn't quite as good at reading and pronouncing it.  She said 'Michaela' as mitch-ALE-ah

So, they compromised: my grandmother got to pick the spelling that matched her pronunciation.  McKayla = mc-KAY-la

Coincidentally, while 'Michaela' means "Servant of God," 'McKayla' means "fiery."  Thanks, grandma!

('Kennedy,' on the other hand, means "ugly head" and there's nothing that can fix that.)
