What is the most annoying thing people have asked you after you told them your decision to do a Ph.D.?

After I inform people that I am pursuing a PhD, mostly people will ask about my research topic. I try to explain it to the best of my abilities, but of course the vast majority of people won't understand it. I do not blame them at all, since I have been working on the project for a year now, and even then, my understanding is not even halfway there, and probably will never be.
But then, comes the kicker, "So how is it useful?" This question comes across with such a smug sense of self entitlement that it really irritates me. That question is the most annoying thing ever.
