Online marketing is notoriously volatile. Today’s hot platform, tool or technique might be tomorrow’s laughingstock.

According to the graphic, video, data analysis, automation software and chat engagement (through messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger) warrant heavy investment. More traditional marketing pillars, such as content audits, also merit priority.

The infographic touts the growing popularity of longer content. MDG quotes research that says corporate blog posts between 1,200 and 1,400 words garner the most shares and that the average post in 2016 had increased in length by nearly 20 percent.
