In an all-out war, could an army of 1,000 cats defeat an army of 1,000 dogs?

The dogs would win.

In a battle between any cat champion ( eg, Lion, Tiger, Panther, Feral etc ) and any dog, the cat’s going to win. The dog simply doesn’t have a chance. It happens all the time in parts of the world, and even a smaller cat can probably kill a dog much larger - Cats are kind of ninja-like in that respect - perfect killers.

Dogs are not perfect killers, but they have one thing the cats don’t. Group Tactics. Cats are solitary animals, living in small packs and often hunting alone. They are the top predator, so usually don’t worry about the threat from other animals - after all, they can defeat any one foe.

But a pack of dogs works as a team and can bring down a solitary animal much larger than them. Dogs do this instinctively, and will surround and wear down their prey, or scamper when the odds get too great. They are much better survivors.

In a war, this difference in tactics would work for the dogs - So they will slowly wear down the cats with lower overall losses.

And that’s how the battle would end - with maybe a hundred remaining dogs surrounding the last cat as they back it into a final corner.
