How much should you spend on content marketing?

How much should you spend on content marketing?

Business 2 Community features a Point Visible infographic that sheds light on this thorny financial decision that almost every organization must address. Citing a survey of marketers nationwide, the infographic states that 75 percent of respondents plan to increase their content marketing budgets in the next 12 months. Content marketing also accounted for an average of 29 percent of the respondents’ total marketing budgets.

As for trends to watch, the graphic says 69 percent of company reps polled planned to increase spending on video and that 28 percent of marketers surveyed were shrinking advertising budgets to prioritize digital marketing.

The infographic’s lead-in article includes further budgeting tips. The author suggests dedicating 25 to 30 percent of your total marketing budget to content marketing efforts. He references a tip from the Small Business Administration that “companies doing under $5 million a year in sales [should] consider spending 7–8 percent of gross revenue on marketing and advertising.”

If you’d like to give that a whirl, here’s the formula they provide: [$ annual revenue] x 0.075 x 0.3 = [$ annual content marketing budget].
