Next, Ervin & Smith recommends selecting a format that dovetails with the kind of story you’re after. Are you thinking of a timeline, a comparison chart or something with more editorial flair? Whatever it is, the infographic advises offering a scant amount of text.

The graphic’s final exhortations are “double check your stats” and “make it shareable.” The creators suggest an optimum width of 735 pixels and a maximum height of 6,000 pixels. They also offer social media-specific tips for optimizing infographics on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
