Quite apart from the Wet Dog Smell and the vomit smell and the toilet-related accidents indoors, dogs bring all kinds of germs and bacteria into the house and spread bits of discarded dog - skin cells, fur, etc - all through the home. And that's a good thing. Children brought up in a home with animals in it, and exposed to their germs, dander and loose hair flying around the room are much less likely than their sad and lonely petless friends to develop asthma and/or allergies.
