I don't joke with or talk to my CEO like I joke with and talk to my friends or my husband. That wouldn't be fitting considering the nature of the employee/employer relationship.
You have to evaluate what is appropriate given the circumstances and the environment and let those considerations guide your behavior. That isn't being inauthentic or wearing a mask - that's just what it is to live in adult society.
It would be most unwise to think one should behave exactly the same way in every single circumstance, regardless of where they are or who they're dealing with.
