What's a cool thing you ‘invented’ as a kid, only to find it had already been invented?

Great Question!

Short Answer: I “Invented” Approval Voting but called it Multi-Voting

Long Answer: When I was 16 I saw the ineffectiveness of our current first-past-the-post voting system and thought “what would be a better way to do it?” I came up with a system where you could vote for multiple people which would remove the need for polarizing primaries, avoid 3rd party spoilers, and let voters express their true preferences with more clarity. I was really into photoshop at the time and came up with the name Multi-Vote-America

The M is 3 stacked since you could vote for multiple people. The V looks like a check mark and the A has a star for America!

I then studied Social choice more and discovered that this system has already been invented and it is called Approval Voting. I now run a blog and activist group called Approval Vote America
