At the bar prior to the Seattle Sounders home opener Sunday night, I was shocked when I looked over and saw the tail end of a Homelight television spot.
The smarter way to find a real estate agent.
I get why they use that as the core tag line, though not sure it captures the imagination enough. If I’m looking for an agent right this second, sure I may be tempted to go see what Homelight is all about. However, if I’m not in the market for an agent, I don’t feel particularly curious about what’s so magical about the product (thus, I would not dig in deeper, and likely forget about them entirely).
One thing is certain. Something about the business must be working if Homelight is willing to invest in TV advertising. Either that, or it’s a hail mary prior to bankruptcy.

These ads are misleading!!! Having worked in the real estate business from the legal side I'm insulted that they make the claim when they state that the offers their recommended agents bring to the home sellers are thousands of dollars over listing price! Listing prices are based on many factors including a comparison of recently homes sold that include area, size, amenities, condition etc and if an agent brings you an offer $20,000 to $40,000 over the list price, they must have put the list price $20,000-$40,000 below it's true value to begin with. Sure houses do get sold over list perhaps because two or three parties want the property or someone is stupid, it's not for that kind of offer they state. And mtge companies would never finance a property for that amount over list, unless they assess it as having that actual value or they want to go out of business. Just plain irresponsible that they make such an outrageous claim. If I used their service, I'd want to see the sales that back that claim!!! Do they think people are that gullible?
