A recent Cone Communications poll reported that 87 percent of consumers will buy a product from a company because it supported a cause that was important to them. Which organizations are excelling at their efforts?
A new Harris poll reveals just that.
The company recently released its 2017 Reputation Quotient, which asks consumers to rate the top 100 most visible organizations in the United States according to their social responsibility.
Here are the top 10:
1. Wegmans
2. Publix Super Markets
3. Amazon.com
4. Tesla Motors
5. USAA
6. Lowe’s
7. UPS
8. L.L. Bean
9. Walt Disney Company
10. Whole Foods Market
Harris Poll also reported the bottom 10:
91. AIG
92. Bank of America
93. Volkswagen Group
94. ExxonMobil
95. BP
96. Takata
97. Halliburton
98. Goldman Sachs
99. Wells Fargo & Company
100. Monsanto
It should be noted that getting high CSR marks is fairly difficult. Only eight of the 100 companies in the survey achieved “excellent” CSR ratings this year, which is higher than any other year.
Organizations looking to improve their scores can look to the qualities that consumers value most today from a CSR perspective. Those include:
- Employee treatment (39 percent)
- Ethics (38 percent)
- Respectful treatment of customers (35 percent)
Perception of social responsibility also differed among age groups. Millennials saw Tesla, Publix and Amazon as the top CSR companies, though Baby Boomers identified Wegmens, General Mills and Southwest Airlines as their top three.
