Royal Opera House turns to symbols for World Emoji Day

It’s World Emoji Day, and no one is celebrating online quite like the Royal Opera House.

In addition to being the top trending topic on Twitter on Monday, the occasion is also “a global celebration of emojis” organized by ‪@Emojipedia, according to the World Emoji Day Twitter bio.

The Royal Opera House in London is using the opportunity to educate and amuse followers by creating and telling the stories of ballets and operas using nothing but emojis:

There are several more: The company is tweeting a new one every 30 minutes. If you retweet them and send your guess, you could win a pair of tickets.

The Twitter gambit is the opera house’s way of engaging attendees online and telling stories.

“We grab any opportunity to tell narratives and teaming up with Twitter means we do this at unprecedented scale,” Jeremy Paul, ROH’s head of marketing, said in a statement. “It’s part of a strategy to pivot into dialogue-platforms like Twitter.”
