You know who soldiers hate the most? Guys who aren’t afraid to die. That’s because guys who aren’t afraid to die are the ones most likely to get them killed. The last thing you want in your unit is some idiot who thinks he’s Rambo.
As for the Navy, the destroyer USS Johnston was commissioned 27th of October 1943. At the commissioning ceremony her commanding officer said, “This is going to be a fighting ship. I intend to go in harm's way, and anyone who doesn't want to go along had better get off right now.” She was sunk one year less two days later, taking on multiple Japanese battleships, cruisers, and destroyers.
