Why does the US news media try so hard to avoid the coverage of the Vice President nominee Tim Kaine on TV?

I think the reason you see more of Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence on the news than you see Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine is because Tim Kaine is not called upon almost every day to explain away every mistake Hillary Clinton makes or a Tweet Hillary Clinton produces.

But every time Donald Trump sticks his foot in his mouth at a speech or a rally or an interview or in a Twitter post, Mike Pence is called upon to explain it away.
