- Never ride without a helmet.
- Test your brakes when you set off, by braking hard.
- When crossing an intersection, use any large vehicle like a car or bus next to you as a shield against any errant traffic which is cutting across the intersection illegally.
- Always try to point your motorcycle to the gap between the vehicles in front of you. In an emergency, its better to wedge between two vehicles than into the back of a vehicle. That extra couple of feet you need to brake fully is available when you go into a gap, even if the gap is too narrow to pass fully.
- If you encounter someone crossing the road illegally, jaywalking, aim to ride behind them. People will freeze or run forward in panic, but they never walk backwards - by aiming behind them, you know that whatever they do in a panic, you will avoid hitting them.
