What are some mind-blowing facts that sound like 'BS', but are actually true?

In Florence (Italy), streets have two separate house numbering schemes running side-by-side. It is the only city in the world to use this system, apart from Genoa (also in Italy).

That's right, Florence's house address system has two distinct house numbering sequences running simultanously: blue numbers for residential properties, and red for commercial ones.

This can lead to many weird and confusing situations: for example, when getting into a taxi and specifying the address, the driver will often ask "blu o rosso" ("blue or red"). No, this is not some weird Matrix reference (although that would be cool)...

... it's because the same house number can appear twice, on the same street (!).

But, more confusing still for uninformed tourists is the fact that one can't rely on street numbers to run strictly sequentially, as is evident by this picture:

Very confusing.
