If the food is sent back because the customer didn't like it, it will be thrown away and you get a new one.
If the food is sent back because there was really something wrong with it, it will be thrown away and you also get a new one.
The difference between these two is:
In the first case, when service is over the cooks will badmouth the customer and rant for half an hour about how that person is a worthless piece of **** while smoking cigarettes in the back alley. It's not personal.
In the second case, the chef will probably badmouth the cooks and rant for half an hour about how they're all worthless pieces of ****. It's not personal either, most of the times.
