Because voting for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson accomplishes nothing. Meanwhile we’ve got a massive civil rights issue unfolding in this country that impacts me and my loved ones and people like me all over this country in profound ways.
I care about one thing: Of all the decisions I can make, which decision produces the best outcome for the 1.4 million US citizens like me who are struggling for our right to access basic services in this country.
Option 1: Trump might be fine with people like me on an individual level but he makes it very clear that the officials he would appoint and the policies his administration would forward would make life significantly worse for lots of us.
Option 2: Hillary hasn’t always been our friend but she’s actually called for concrete action to address the violence we’re experiencing as a population and can be counted on to continue the Obama Administration’s press for improvement of the way we’re treated in this country by the government and the agencies the government administers and supports.
Option 3: Vote for someone who won’t get elected, pray for Hillary to get elected without my support, deal with 20+ years of consequences if Trump is elected and his proposed nominations to the Supreme Court are confirmed.
I wonder what I’ll choose? I’d have voted for Sanders and I’ll vote for Clinton because truthfully I don’t care. The reality of anyone else being elected terrifies me more than I like to think about. Too many of us are dying in this country every year, too many of us can’t access essential services. In the past week we’ve seen a judge rule that people like me can be fired because our existence is an affront to some people’s “sincerely held religious beliefs.”
I’m terrified of the consequences of not having a progressive in office and there’s no way in hell that Jill Stein is getting elected so all voting for her accomplishes is to remove an opportunity to have my vote count towards actually putting someone in office who gives a shit about me and the other 1.4 million American citizens like me.
