Preference for donuts over other types of snacks seems to be a regional thing. In the agency where I worked, it would have been extremely rare to see a patrol car parked outside a donut shop or to see a cop eating a donut. We took our breaks in Denny's-type coffee shops, and if we had something to eat as a snack, pie or ice cream would have been more likely. I worked with a couple of guys who hit Popeye's Fried Chicken every day, within two hours of starting the watch. Donuts may fit the stereotype (and I attend an annual law enforcement conference where one of the standard events is a donut-eating contest, poking fun at ourselves), but like most stereotypes, there is a little bit of truth and mostly myth.
