Google beefs up marketing features for flights, hotels and more

Google is making life easier for travelers and shoppers—and is giving marketers more opportunities to reach these consumers.

The company announced via an AdWords blog post new features that will affect how users can search for flights, hotels and broad shopping terms like “women’s athletic clothing” on their mobile devices.

On the travel side, users can expect the following updates:

Hotel smart filters: These will allow users to filter based on ratings, price or specific hotel features like “pet friendly.”

Hotel deals: Expect to see a “Deal” label on certain hotels that are well below their average price.

Hotel tips: This feature will provide theoretically useful tips to help people understand how they can save money by changing parts of their requirements.

Improved flight price tracking: You’ll be able to track a specific flight and receive notifications of any changes via “Google Now” cards.

“Showcase Shopping” ads will give marketers the ability to push collections based on a certain search term. For example, if someone searches “summer dresses,” they might see a gallery of options from an advertiser as the first result.

Google is also upgrading its TrueView feature on YouTube by adding “a new interactive banner appearing next to the video that lets viewers scroll through products while the video is playing next to it. The banner also shows viewers the most up-to-date product information.”

These changes are expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
