If GMOs were to be consumed by a person who's never eaten them before, would that person die?

Uttermost bullshit.

Just about all the food we eat is “genetically modified” because it has been bred, both by professional breeders and by ordinary farmers, over the centuries. Normal stock breeding changes the genetic makeup of the plants and animals we eat by selecting from the random combinations of genes that nature throws at us. More recently, the generation of random combinations has been speeded up by irradiating seeds - but for some reason people call this “natural”.

The process that people object to in so-called “GMOs” simply takes the randomness out of it. Instead of using copying mistakes and radiation to generate new genes, then hoping they are useful, we carefully select genes whose effects we actually know.

The bad effects, such as they are, of GMOs are not on the people who eat them, they are on the ecosystems where they encourage monoculture and possibly propagate pesticide resistance in undesirable ways. Don’t worry about the people who eat them, worry about farmers and the environment.
