What is the best advice your mother ever gave you?

Wisdom from my mom:

  • Wear shoes when wading in a creek or swimming in a lake.  There might be glass or an old fishing hook.
  • Love isn't a good enough reason to marry.
  • People are more important than things.
  • Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.  Skin washes. (Meaning don't be afraid of hard work or dirty work)
  • I think you're going to survive. (If we were hurt or bleeding she was very matter of fact, not overly sympathetic.)
  • Don't overstay your welcome.
  • Keep some cash hidden in a secret pocket of your purse in case of emergency.
