What's the best advice you've got from someone who knows that they're dying?

Pursue your dreams now. Take the trip now. Follow your heart now. Have money saved for retirement but do everything you’ve always wanted to do before you retire.

My uncle and I were very close. He was a decorated paratrooper in World War 11. He could never stand straight. Too many jumps made him walk hunched over, staring at the ground.

I was looking outside the window at our front yard. He was standing, leaning against his car. I walked out and asked him why he wasn’t coming in the house.

“I can’t” he said. I can’t make it up the three steps. I looked and saw how tiny they were. I stayed outside and he could barely talk. He was suffering from Emphysema.

“Your aunt and I saved our money. We were going to travel. I was going to paint, she was planning to pursue a writing career.”

He never planned on dying until he had a chance to follow his dreams. He thought he would live to be 100 years old.

I was at my uncles bedside when he died a month later. My aunt died from a broken heart two months later. Doctors called her death something else, but we who loved her, knew the real cause of her death.

My uncle and I urge you to follow your passion today. Allow no excuses.Plan as if you could die anytime. How do you define a happy and full life?

“Happiness, not in another place but this place...not for another hour, but this hour.”
 ― Walt Whitman (Goodreads quotes)
