In my late 30’s, I was a wife and a mother of 2, with a career and a house and everything else that we are supposed to want in life. Then I started losing weight, which was great at first but I kept losing it no matter what I did. I also got very weak. I got to the point where I couldn't stand up long enough to take a shower or brush my teeth. Walking to the bathroom was a project. I had trouble sitting on the couch and folding laundry. I had to take a nap after a few shirts. I couldn't work for sure.
I went to several doctors. They ran tests and couldn't find anything so they told me over and over that I was depressed. I kept telling them that I wanted to do these things but I literally didn't have the energy.
During those months of weakness, I thought I was going to die. When I had the energy to surf the internet, I looked for a place we could rent in Hawaii for a month so that my children would have a good memory of me before I went. I also wanted my in laws and parents to come so we could all be a family for a while.
After a few months, my husband flew me to a major city and got me into specialists. They finally diagnosed me with a rare chronic illness. I have to take pills 5 times a day and carry an emergency kit with me but I was able to get back to my life. It was definitely a plot twist for our family.
