It is not American to support our president just because he is the president. Our first right as outlined in the Bill of Rights is our ability to assemble and protest. It is fundamentally American to protest.
Furthermore, we have accepted that Hillary has lost. That is not why we are protesting.
We are protesting because he said he wants to ban immigration from “muslim countries” (whatever that means) and force muslims to register. That violates the constitution.
We are protesting because he wants to demonize entire groups of people like Latinos and this is causing hate crimes to increase.
We are protesting because he is the most corrupt person in American politics now. On some of his first calls with other heads of state, he discussed personal business dealings in their countries and diplomats are now staying at the hotel he owns nearby.
We are protesting because he promised that he would release his tax returns once he was elected and it hasn't happened.
We are protesting because it is our right to speak out against injustice.
Just like how the right-wing gun lovers say they need their weapons to overthrow the government if it becomes tyrannical, I know that words have toppled more governments than violence.
P.S. Trump supported protesting Obama when he won both the popular vote and the electoral college (twice). I’m not sure why your claim that we should support him because he is our president, would not extend to Obama. (Hint: it is because he is a black man with a scary sounding name).
