Trump is hoping the conservative base will continue to be naive enough to think that deportation is an event -- something that happens to someone. But it isn't. It's a process.
And some of the steps in the process of deporting an illegal undocumented alien are very difficult, time consuming, and expensive. Let me paint a simple picture for you...
ICE officer: "Okay, sir. You have no documentation so we have to deport you. What is your name?"
Juan: "Juan. Juan Martinez."
ICE officer: "Where are you from, Mr. Martinez?"
Juan: "Sweeden."
ICE officer: "Seriously? Sweeden?"
Juan: "Si."
ICE officer: "I don't believe you. Where are you really from?"
Juan: "Sweeden. It is true! Please send me to Sweeden!"
ICE officer: "You're not from Sweeden. Where are you from?"
Juan: "Norway is fine, too. But I prefer Sweeden."
ICE officer: "Norway, or Sweeden."
Juan: "Si."
ICE officer: "Is you're name really Juan Martinez?"
Juan: "Si. From Sweeden."
Do you get the picture? These people are UNDOCUMENTED. They have no passport to prove where they came from. And without a passport, and proof of residency, the country you want to deport them to won't accept them. What do you do now? You can't simply put them on a plane to Mexico if they can't even prove who they really are and that they're really from Mexico.
