No, what was on the minds of so many voters in 2014 as they went to the polls was whether or not they were about to die from hemorrhagic fever. The Republicans did well in 2014 because the public was all hyped up with fear over Ebola, and whenever the public is hyped up in fear over anything, Republicans do better than Democrats. The shutdown was, by then, long ago old news. Voter memory is rarely ever longer than about six weeks.
You don't have to look past Ebola to understand the results in 2014.
