Last Tuesday I drove 120 miles to the Memphis airport to save $180 in airfare. Flew just over 1000 miles to Denver. I rented a car, drive to Boulder, then Estes Park drove to 11,700 feet above sea level and it snowed. Got to see fall foliage.
Drove through Wyoming and spent a night there. Drove to Logan, Utah for a football game.
That was about 550 miles of driving. Drove another 620 miles back to Denver taking a longer route to see different stuff.
Flew back to Memphis.
In all I traveled just over 3300 miles over six days and five nights and never got within 700 miles of an international border.
The cost of airfare for two and a rental car (upgraded to an SUV) and fuel I spent is equal to the price of one round trip to London plane ticket from my home airport according to the low fare daily email update I subscribed to.
This weekend I will drive 250 miles round trip all on Saturday just to watch a football game. A friend will drive 450 miles round trip Saturday and Sunday for the same game. We make that trip six times this season.
